Dual Enrollment Interest Meeting

Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 6 p.m.

This mandatory meeting is for all students and parents interested in participating in the dual enrollment program for the 2024-2025 school year. Dual enrollment is an option for 11th and 12th grade students. The meeting presentation will be uploaded to the counseling website after the meeting, but it's imperative that students/parents attend this meeting for live interaction and Q&A.

Please begin researching the college admission requirements for dual enrollment. Some colleges will require a SAT or ACT score and if so, students need to register now for either the February ACT or March SAT in order to have scores back in time for their application.

NOTE: Georgia State is now test optional for students who have a 3.2 core GPA (Perimeter locations) and a 3.4 core GPA (Atlanta downtown location). If a student doesn't meet that GPA but has at least a 3.0 core, they will need either the SAT or ACT scores.

CHS Community Service Verification Form

The CHS PTSA Service Committee is pleased to provide a newly revised form for Chamblee High School students to give to nonprofits for a signature, etc., as a way to verify their service hours. The students can submit this form to their respective clubs or to the counseling office for the school's community service award. This form is another option for students, as other service letters or verification on letterhead can also still be submitted. The committee wanted to ease the burden on some nonprofits that did not already have a verification form for volunteers.

Student Opportunities

The internship team at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) are writing to announce that the 2024 pre-application for GTRI's High School Summer Internship Program is now open. As such, we would like to invite eligible Chamblee High School students (see below) to apply for a paid opportunity to work alongside the best problem-solvers in the research and development enterprise. The most important requirement to keep in mind is that all high school students must complete the 2024 pre-application as a first-step. Furthermore, for your awareness:

- only students who complete a 2024 pre-applicationbefore the deadline will be eligible for an internship,
- no additional student(s) will be permitted to complete a pre-application once it closes, and
- the pre-application will close on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 11:59pm [Deadline].

The pre-application will be used to match the applicant with GTRI employment opportunities. Please note that completion of the pre-application is not a guarantee of employment. If any of your student(s) are selected following a successful phone-screen interview, they will receive a conditional employment offer and will be required to complete a full-application.

To be eligible for an internship, all prospective interns must:

  • Show proof of citizenship or US person status (NISPOM 2-208, EAR Part 772 and ITAR 120.15
    • Note #1: Most, but not all, positions require US Citizenship because of the nature of the project or information to which the student may have access during the internship.
    • Note #2: GTRI does not sponsor H1B visas
  • Be a Georgia resident attending a public, private, charter or home school in Georgia.
  • Be at least 16 years old before the deadline for completing the full application (April 1, 2024).
  • Be in the high school graduating class of 2024, 2025, or 2026.
  • Have reliable transportation to assigned work location (Housing is not provided).
  • Beable to work from June 10, 2024 to July 19, 2024, during Georgia Tech's regular business hours (M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.).
    • Note #3: Interns are not permitted to work on weekends or after hours.
  • Attend an all-daySTEM@GTRI orientation on June 10, 2024.
    • Note #4: If you miss the orientation, your GTRI internship offer will be rescinded.
  • Attend and participate in an all-day final presentation on July 19, 2024.
  • Beavailable to work 24 hours/week for five weeks (more than 24 hr/wk will not be approved).
    • Note #5: Interns are not allowed to work on weekends or after hours (work will only be permitted M-F 8am-5pm)
    • Note #6: Work will be in-person only.

College Visits and Information

College Rep Visits

There are no College Rep Visits currently scheduled at CHS.  Check back often for updates.

Juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend college rep visits. Admissions officers from colleges across the country choose Chamblee to visit out of all the high schools in Atlanta, and we want students to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about a college they are interested in or to even find out more about a college they don't know much about. Students can sign up for college rep visits in their Naviance account. Visits are 30 minutes long and will take place in the counseling office. Students must have teacher permission to attend and use their confirmation email as their pass for the visit. Check Naviance often as new reps are signing up daily!
